Playa Del Carmen - Day 2

Our first full day in Mexico.   Sleep was kind, and we were up at 8:50 am.   The beach was quiet, with a few people in the water and lounging in the sun.   A lazy morning, with some fresh fruit for breakfast and eggs ala Terry (scrambled with a touch of Mexican vanilla!).

We decided to try the ocean, as it was hot, and a little humid.   It was about 31 degrees Celsius (felt like 39!).  The water was a balmy 28 degrees Celsius, but a welcome relief from the air temp.   We spent a couple of hours soaking and watching the passer-byers.   The girls tried some artsy pose on the shore break, but wound up with sand where you don't want sand!

We decided it would be a good idea to hit a pub for the Euro Cup match between Germany and Italy.   It was scorching hot.   The pub had a few TV's but not A/C...the beer was cold and the food was tasty, so all was good!

Back to unit, for some A/C and a siesta!  Beers and heat, wreck you!   Tonight, we will see what adventure we can get into!

The beach in front of us became quite busy late in the day.  I was content to sit in the shade of the balcony and watch the people pass by.  A wide assortment of locals and tourists.  Our beach man, Santiago and his niece were busy moving chairs and umbrellas, or running off to fill drink orders for lounging tourists.  Santiago is very helpful and can get you anything you need.  He tells me he can arrange a tour to Cozumel and insists there is no obligation to take his deal.

A dip in the infinity pool is next.   Cuba Libra in hand, and Bill by my side. We sip and watch the people pass by.  The pool is only slightly cooler than the ocean, but very refreshing.

We decide to head up 5th Ave again in search of a meal.   We walked the strip east this time. Its hopping...people everywhere. It's more like the Vegas strip on a Saturday, than a sleepy fishing village.  Near the end of the strip, we settle on a small open air restaurant called Salt Rock.  The owner is an energetic Ken and Laurie Boyd.  Their storey is, he was a contractor living in Chicago, tired of the winters he and his wife up and moved to Playa 3 months ago and opened the restaurant.  He loves the life, even the hours of running a restaurant. He brags the food is fresh, and the flavours are tasty.   I ordered the Jambalaya with Spicey Rice, Bill the ChickenParmesan, Brenda the Calamari and Pamela the muscles.  He did not lie.  The food was fresh and tasty.

The long walk back to the unit was welcome as we overate and needed to burn off the calories.   The strip, even st 11 pm was hoping.  Many vendors were packing up, but most of the stores were open and people were everywhere.  Young and old, party goers and thrill seekers, sightseers and wanderers. It was a mosh pit of variety.

Back at the unit, we had plans for a midnight swim, but the food and exercise changed our minds, and it was sleep that called to us.   Tomorrow is another day in paradise.  Cec joins us in the afternoon and new adventures await!
